What house-levelling in Wollongong actually involves

A floor or slab can settle, tilt or step for the reasons CSIRO lists for footings: saturated or eroded ground, clay that swells and shrinks, roots, leaking pipes and stormwater. Methods on offer include underpinning, restumping and resin injection to lift a slab. Which fits depends on what moved and why, and the sources we read can say what they say about each, not which is better.

Which surface moved?

A spirit level shows whether a surface is level. It does not show whether the footing, the floor frame or the slab beneath has moved. Ask which surface the provider found had moved, how they measured it, and whether anything will be checked after a lift. The University of Newcastle notes that injected resin can over-lift a foundation if the soil is wetted again later, so a lift is not the end of the question.

On Wollongong's flat coastal ground, the state's soil-landscape report for the Fairy Meadow unit lists flood hazard, low wet bearing strength and high seasonal watertables as limitations, and calls the soils generally stable. Where a floor has moved on ground like that, water is a question to ask early: where it goes, and whether the water table changes. For the hill suburbs the reports list mass movement and erosion instead. In either case the map says what to expect across an area, not what has happened under one floor.
