Resin injection is offered to lift or support a slab or footing by injecting expanding resin into the ground beneath. The University of Newcastle calls it a common underpinning solution for houses, buildings and paving slabs, and the published research we could read is thin.

What resin-injection in Wollongong actually involves

A 2010 paper by Buzzi, Fityus and Sloan in the Canadian Geotechnical Journal says expansive polyurethane resin can be injected in stages under a structure to reach a desired level, forming a resin and clay composite, and that although the resin cannot stop the soil wetting again, the risk of over-lifting in the long term is limited. We read only its abstract.

What the same sources warn about

The University of Newcastle's page adds that cracks left by shrinking soil are filled with resin, so later wetting can cause extra swelling that may over-lift the foundation, while its laboratory tests on large samples did not show injected specimens swelling more. An open-access review by non-Australian authors lists a relatively high material cost, documentation that is rare next to other techniques, susceptibility to ultraviolet light and microbial degradation, and an injection depth of up to ten metres that limits the method to shallow foundations. None of these sources sets resin against underpinning, and neither does this page.

Ask how the provider's method deals with wet ground. The state's report for the Fairy Meadow unit, which the soil map returns at Fairy Meadow and part of Dapto, lists high seasonal watertables and low wet bearing strength among its limitations and says nothing about resin. Where a job lowers the water table on land the local plan's acid sulfate map puts in a class, the plan's consent rule for such works can apply, and whether a given job does that is a fact about the job.
